ZAGALLO is a new AGA (androgenetic alopecia) treatment drug approved by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare in 2015. The active ingredient, dutasteride, inhibits both type I and type II 5α-reductase enzymes, thereby suppressing the production of dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is a male hormone derived from testosterone and is considered a causative agent of AGA. Taking 1 mg of ZAGALLO once a day is expected to promote hair growth.
ZAGALLO is expected to have a higher hair growth effect compared to other AGA treatment drugs like finasteride. While finasteride only inhibits type II 5α-reductase enzymes, ZAGALLO inhibits both type I and type II enzymes. Therefore, even those who did not see sufficient effects with finasteride may be able to suppress the progression of thinning hair with ZAGALLO. Additionally, ZAGALLO has been reported to have fewer side effects than finasteride.
